Ah, Space Marine. Outside of the Dawn of War games, this was easily one of the most-anticipated game releases for me in the past few years. Let’s hope it will tide me over at least until Dark Milennium! GK and I dove in on day one, thrashed our way through the single-player campaigns, and pounded plenty of opponents into submission in multiplayer. Did the game live up to its expectations? Find out as we bring you the Rules Lawyers Review of Space Marine for the XBox 360
Issue: Can two Crypteks, one from each of two Royal Courts, join the same unit of Warriors, Immortals, etc.?
Holding: Yes, two Crypteks may join the same unit, as long as they come from separate Royal Courts.
ON APPEAL: Appeal is taken from Stelek’s ruling regarding the Necrons’ Ever Living Rule and Resurrection Orbs:
“Nowhere can you use a Resurrection Orb to pass a Ever-Living roll on 4+, because it isn’t a Reanimation Protocols roll. … If you care to tell me I’m wrong, I expect rules quotes.” -Stelek
HOLDING: The Resurrection Orb’s effect does apply to Ever Living rolls. Stelek’s ruling is reversed.
Wolf Scouts are an incredibly cheap unit that has the uncanny ability to change the way your opponent plays the game. Suddenly your opponent’s back board edge isn’t a safe place to hide. Toss in a Wolf Guard with combi-melta and powerfist, and now the unit can beat down vehicles and firebase infantry units in CC in addition to bringing pain from short range with two meltashots into rear armor. In short, wolf scouts are a nightmare for gun lines and parking lots. While I may not take them in every list, I knew I’d want at least one unit to have on hand if I was going to play space wolves with any kind of regularity.
Issue: Can cover saves be taken against the Callidus Assassin’s Polymorphine attack?
Holding: Yes, cover saves may be taken against wounds caused by the Polymorphine attack, but only cover which does not depend on the position of the firer applies.
ISSUE: Can a Wolf Guard Battle Leader on a Thunderwolf Mount take Saga of the Hunter?
HOLDING: No, a Wolf Guard Battle Leader on a Thunderwolf Mount may not take Saga of the Hunter.
Coming back to 40k meant starting a whole new army, and for me that army was Dark Eldar. I usually start building an army by coming up with a solid 500 point list. This forces me to focus on getting solid troop selections, and forces me to trim those oh-so-cool toys that just aren’t necessary/point-cost effective in an army. While the the list may change as it escalates, 500 points is always a good place to start. In some armies, (such as today’s Dark Eldar), a quick copy-paste is all it takes to grow this list to 1000 or 1500, giving you some deadly redundancy. Once you get the to 1500+ point mark, you can start to justify more expensive units.
So, without further delay, I present my 500 Points of Dark Eldar.
ISSUE: Does a model which suffers an unsaved wound from a Dark Eldar Hexrifle, but passes its Feel No Pain test, still suffer the additional effects of the Hexrifle shot?
HOLDING: Yes, a model which suffers an unsaved wound from a hexrifle shot must pass a wounds characteristic test or be removed from play, regardless of whether it passes its FNP test or not.
